A Leader in Me Lighthouse School

A graphic that reads A Leader in Me School.

This summer, Carr Elementary School learned that it has successfully earned recertification as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School — a recognition given to schools that show strong leadership development in students, staff and families. To receive this honor, schools must teach leadership principles to all students, involve families in learning the 7 Habits and provide students with meaningful opportunities to practice leadership skills. Carr is one of only about 700 Lighthouse Leader in Me Certified Schools in the world.

Carr is one of four schools in the county that use the Leader in Me program. The program is based on Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and is part of daily learning. Students explore how what they are learning fits into each habit and how it helps them grow as leaders.

Every student at Carr takes part in a special Leader in Me class, where they practice leadership through hands-on activities. Students also help lead school events and serve as role models for younger classmates.

The Leader in Me program offers students in the Dallas area a clear leadership path from kindergarten through high school. Students start at Carr or Costner Elementary, continue at W.C. Friday Middle and finish at North Gaston High — building their skills every step of the way.
